Petroleum Training Institute recruitment saga.

When one hears “Uvwie” what comes to mind is the movie “30 days in Atlanta” by AY. It would be recalled in the movie; AY was gambling with some white guys, after winning the full bet about to take his leave the guys threatened him with their gun instead of being intimidated he challenged them to a fight after he broke bottle on his own head the guys took to their heels then in Pidgin he said “You wan try Uvwie youth?” meaning “are you daring an Uvwie youth?”. From this, one will come to the conclusion that the youth of the community are scared of nothing.

The protest which started at the Petroleum Training Institute yesterday (click here if you missed) continued today youths were spotted a the main entrance of the institute’s main gate.  Read more and view more pics after the cut...

Although the turnout wasn’t as many as that of yesterday, but the presence of the hefty youths manning the gates, dancing etc. and the aged ones seated under canopy couldn’t go unnoticed. The cooking was still done as usual, refreshments were brought and served at intervals to motivate the youth and the aged ones to remain.

One will come to wonder why the aged had to go through the stress instead of leaving the youth to carry on with the energetic process. The simple answer is that when it comes to fighting for their rights, the Uvwie people are one and age is no barrier

The police with two vans were spotted opposite the institute watching as the youths had their way. Trying to get more information of the police people of the community have this to say “Police can’t do anything even if this should escalate and as at now the protest is still a peaceful one”

Now the youths are seen chanting “Angela(Registrar) must go” “Erukele (Principal) must go” well that decision can be made only by the federal government. Will the federal government heed their cry? More news as the days unfold.
